Michael Berkowitz

Michael Berkowitz (1952 -) is a native of New York City, NY. For most of his life he was a Sculptor, performance and installation artist. Though he began doing photography as a young teen, he never considered exploring it as an art form. Over 25 years ago, after seeing a book of photographs from the 1800s, he decided to take up large format photography seriously. Inspired by the elaborate studio setups of early photographic portraiture, he incorporated his artistic skills into his photos, designing and making sets, costumes, and jewelry for subjects.
