Richard Garrod


Richard Garrod (1924-2022) was a Monterey area photographer who has contributed immensely to the history and photographic legacy of the area. Garrod captured captivating details of California landscapes, including areas like Point Lobos, Moss Landing, Pebble Beach, and the Sierra Nevada. Garrod was also a cohort and traveling companion to Brett Weston, a close friend to Wynn Bullock, and a dedicated student of Minor White and Ansel Adams.

 Garrod taught at the prestigious Ansel Adams Workshops in Yosemite Valley for his good friend Ansel Adams. Garrod taught workshops for a total of 30 years at several locations, including Center for Photographic Art in Carmel, UC Santa Cruz, Friends of Photography, and many other programs. His prints are in many private and institutional collections including the Smithsonian Institution, George Eastman house, Polaroid Corporation, Oakland Museum of California, and the National Museum of Art in Kyoto, Japan.
